02 UEL Design Charette - North Woolwich
train station refurbishment to gallery space
An existing disused train station in North Woolwich provides the opportunity for re appropriation.
The objectives are to visualize the change of use from Station typology to youth venue, to design and site a 30m-radio mast and to meaningfully recycle the heritage fabric of the past to serve the present.
The People’s Republic Film Society, a Newham based organization propose North Woolwich Station as the site for a cultural venue and project space for young people starting a career in visual arts, film and radio broadcasting.
The long-term project is to refurbish the existing building and to build new studios, the first stage in this
process is for a strategic quick win, low cost, exercise to raise aspirations and create visibility for the project.
The project was introduced by muf architecture/ artist Katherine Clarke
The submissions were exhibited at Building1000, Newham Council Offices,
